How Chevrolet is Leading the Fight to Secure a Sustainable Environment
Chevrolet, recognizing the importance of increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption, has done a great deal in recent years to help secure a more sustainable environment. To find out what Chevy is doing to reduce its carbon footprint and which new Chevrolets are the most efficient, continue reading.
Global Carbon-Reducing Projects
Over the next several years, Chevrolet will be investing a total of $40 million in projects all over the world that will reduce up to eight million tons of carbon dioxide from the Earth’s atmosphere. These projects were hand-picked by Chevrolet, and will take approximately five years to finish. When it’s completed, a lasting difference will be made in dozens of communities all over the country and the world.
Fuel-Efficient Cars
Chevrolet understands the large impact that a fuel-efficient car makes in the scheme of reducing worldwide pollution and reducing the amount of fuel that Chevrolet drivers have to purchase. That’s why one of the biggest priorities for Chevy in recent years has been increasing the efficiency of its engines and adding technologies like an electric motor to the mild-hybrid Chevy Malibu Eco and a fully electric powertrain with gasoline engine backup on the Chevrolet Volt.
Increasing Sustainability of Production Plants
Over the years, Chevrolet has made efforts to significantly increase the sustainability of its production facilities. Half of all General Motors manufacturing plants are landfill-free. Roughly 97% of the waste that is generated at these plants is recycled or reused, while the rest of the waste is converted into usable energy.
Upcoming Hydrogen-Powered Vehicle
Chevrolet has produced a limited number of zero-emissions hydrogen-powered Equinox crossover SUVs. The Equinox Fuel Cell, as it is called, works by converting hydrogen into electrical energy that is then used to power the electric motor. The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell can go 322 miles on a single charge, and takes only five minutes to charge.
