For more than 40 years, scientists at this laboratory have made some of the most cutting-edge energy storage devices in the world. The Volt’s battery features one of Argonne’s coveted designs: cathode material technology. With this battery alone, the Volt can travel an EPA-estimated 35 miles. But because the Volt comes with a gasoline engine, it’s able to travel a total of 375 miles on one tank of gas.
