How Chevrolet's Heritage of Horsepower Is on Display Today

    Last updated 7 months ago

Chevrolet, one of the most well-known auto brands in the world, has a long-standing reputation for building cars that offer thrilling performance. To learn more about the history of the Chevy Corvette and Camaro, and what they have to offer you for the 2013 model year, read this article.

    History of the Corvette

Anyone who knows anything about sports cars knows that the Chevy Corvette has always been, and always will be, synonymous with American muscle. The idea originally hatched in the early 1950s, when GM’s chief designer dreamed up an affordable Chevy sports car. The result, a year later, was the Chevrolet Corvette: a 150-horsepower sports car built with the affordable parts of a Chevy sedan, along with performance upgrades and a lineup of sports-tuned components.

    Modern Corvette

Over 60 years later, the Chevrolet Corvette has only gotten better. The style, performance, and quality of Corvette heritage are perhaps best reflected in the latest 2013 ‘Vette, which boasts a 420-horsepower V8, a six-speed manual transmission, and acceleration that’s brutally fast. The new Corvette does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. You can even get a supercharged ZR1 Chevy Corvette for a 638-horsepower sports car that can make mince meat of your neighbor’s Italian or German import.

    History of the Camaro

The Corvette’s little brother was born in the late 1960s for drivers that aren’t quite looking for the level of performance that a Corvette offers, but want a taste of the American muscle car spirit. 1967 saw the introduction of the Camaro coupe and convertible, both of which were athletic, well built, and temptingly affordable.

    Modern Camaro

These days, the Chevy Camaro boasts retro style that pays homage to over 40 years of Camaro success. But that’s not all—you can get a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro with a 323-horsepower V6, a 400-horsepower V8, or a 426-horsepower V8 that will provide endless fun on open highways and winding roads.
